SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM |

METHOD Eligible candidates shall submit application and essay in a sealed envelope marked "SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM" to Kansas Delaware Tribe of Indian's, Inc., Scholarship Committee no later than April 1 of the current year. The winners will be drawn in a blind lottery by the Scholarship Committee as near August 1 of the current year as possible. At the time of the drawing, two additional envelopes shall be drawn and marked ALTERNATE #1/ALTERNATE #2. The envelopes will remain under the control of the Scholarship Committee and the names remain undisclosed. Should the winners be ineligible, or not use the entire grant, the first alternate, then second alternate if necessary, would then be contacted to ascertain if he/she desires the remaining portion. Up to two new $250 scholarships per year will be awarded if adequate funds are available. Scholarships will be continued for up to four (4) years of college as long as the student continues to meet the scholarship requirements. The Scholarship Committee shall confirm pertinent qualifications and eligibility before awarding the scholarship grant. ELIGIBILITY Eligibility will be predicated upon the Kansas Delaware Tribe of Indian's, Inc. membership rolls as of 1 July of the current year. Candidate shall be a descendant of a Delaware who elected to remain in Kansas as is registered on the 1867 Roll. The scholarship candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college, university or vocational school and be a full time student (12 credit hours or more per semester) in an undergraduate or graduate capacity. Full time nurses training will be accepted. NON-ELIGIBILITY Persons who are not eligible: a. Council members and children b. Scholarship committee and children SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENT The Kansas Delaware Indians will be forever remembered for the rich heritage they gave not only to the United States of America, but especially to their descendants. Therefore, each eligible candidate is required to submit with their application a 500-word essay on the history of the Kansas Delaware Indians. SCHOLARSHIP GRANT A notice of scholarship award will be sent as near August 18 of the current year as possible. The payment will be disseminated on or by September 15. A scholarship grant in the amount of $250.00 will be awarded per school year. |
